EXPERIENCE A MAGICAL MOONLIT LOY KRATHONG ON THE BANKS OF THE CHAO PHRAYA RIVER AT CAPELLA BANGKOK

THE BRAND NEW BOUTIQUE RETREAT CELEBRATES THAILAND’S MOST ENCHANTING FESTIVAL WITH ELEGANT DINING EVENTS AT PHRA NAKHON AND CÔTE.

Phra Nakhon restaurant on the banks of the Chao Phraya River will host Loy Krathong festivities at Capella Bangkok

Bangkok – Capella Bangkok is inviting local residents to experience the magic of Loy Krathong, Thailand’s most elegant and enchanting festival, with a moonlit celebration of gastronomy and entertainment on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

Believed to date from the 14th Century, Loy Krathong embraces the ancient ritual of paying respects to the water spirits. On the full moon of the 12th lunar month, Thai people gather at waterways all across the Kingdom to float (“loy”) decorative floral vessels (“krathong”) as a means of cleansing their souls for the year ahead.

As the sun sets on Saturday 31st October 2020, Capella Bangkok’s Loy Krathong celebrations will be staged in a choice of serene settings, overlooking the waters of Bangkok’s “River of Kings”. Surrounded by lush tropical foliage and kissed by the soft lunar glow, diners will be transported on a journey deep into the cultural and culinary heritage of Thailand.

At Phra Nakhon, the hotel’s Thai restaurant, Chef Wichian “Lek” Trirattanavatin and his team of chefs will showcase time-honoured culinary traditions and responsibly-sourced ingredients. In an alfresco atmosphere on the water’s edge, live cooking stations and sharing plates will echo the street food stalls and small family eateries of a bygone era. Savour the flavours of Old Siam with fresh local seafood, salads and soups, marinated grilled meats, fragrant curries, noodles, wok dishes and more. Desserts will include homemade ice cream with a choice of toppings, just like the vendor carts that plied the streets of Bangkok in days gone by.

Alternatively, couples can embark on an unforgettable epicurean adventure at Côte, the new fine-dining destination by Chef Mauro Colagreco, whose Michelin three-star restaurant on the French Riviera, Mirazur, was named as the best in the world. The nine-course ‘Carte Blanche’ blind menu experience features a seasonally inspired tasting of the finest flavours of the French and Italian Rivieras.

Throughout the evening, graceful Thai dancing and live music on classical instruments will create an ethereal ambience. Every guest will then be able to take part in the timeless tradition of Loy Krathong, as they are invited to the riverbank to light candles, arrange flowers and release their own “krathong” on the Chao Phraya, as the silvery light of the full moon dances on the water. Guests can be reassured that every handcrafted krathong at Capella Bangkok is fully biodegradable and eco-friendly.

The Loy Krathong event at Phra Nakhon, including a Thai buffet dinner and entertainment, is priced at THB 6,000 net per person. Alternatively, the nine-course ‘Carte Blanche’ menu at Côte by Mauro Colagreco is priced at THB 9,000 net per person, with an optional wine pairing available for a supplement of THB 3,200 per person. Advanced reservations are required with 100% pre-payment.
