Travel industry shows its appreciation for Sunway City Kuala Lumpur’s legendary flagship hotel as it completes a once-in-a-generation transformation that has elevated every aspect of the guest experience

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Sunway Resort, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur’s flagship five-star hotel, achieved yet another prestigious honour today as it was named “Best Upscale Hotel – Asia Pacific” at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2022.
Created to “Salute Brilliance” in the travel industry, the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards recognise the leading operators in nine categories: hotels, resorts, serviced residences, destinations, cruise operators, airlines, travel agencies, tourism experiences and travel technology providers. A total of 35 awards were available, as voted for by Travel Weekly Asia’s knowledgeable readership, which includes many of the region’s top travel agents and industry professionals.
The “Best Upscale Hotel – Asia Pacific” award was presented to Sunway Resort in a glittering gala ceremony hosted on, 6th October 2022, at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay in Singapore. This grand gathering of winners and nominees represented the cream of the Asia Pacific travel, tourism and hospitality sectors, comprising companies, brands and individuals that have excelled in their performance, innovation and customer service in the last 12 months.
For Sunway Resort, this accolade represents a vote of confidence from the travel trade following a once-in-a-generation transformation which commenced in early 2020 and has reimagined almost every aspect of the guest experience. The most extensive renovation in the hotel’s 25 years history, this US$60 million project encompassed a collection of all-new rooms and suites, cutting-edge technology, world-class dining, family facilities and more.
Guests can now stay in a selection of themed suites dedicated to specific traveller types and lifestyle trends, such as wellness, business, families, luxury and more, all of which are enhanced by state-of-the-art solutions such as keyless room entry, motion sensor night lights, IPTV and “iButlers”, who are on hand to deliver gadgets and set up devices. Sleep trackers, smart curtains and ambient interiors promote a sense of tranquility, and walk-in chromotherapy showers in the bathrooms use colour to refresh the body and stimulate senses. These high-tech upgrades, along with advanced air-conditioning systems, solar panels and LED lighting, also help to make the hotel highly sustainable.
Complementing the rooms and suites, Sunway Resort has introduced a series of curated spaces including the 20th Club, a sophisticated lounge where guests can take advantage of bespoke services, and the Premium Leisure Lounge, where parents can sit back and savour afternoon tea whilst watching their children play in Wonderland Explorers – the resort’s kids club or Waterventure - the new outdoor aquatic play area.
Gastronomy is a key aspect of this reimagined resort. Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, the new signature dining destination, marks this multi-Michelin-starred chef’s debut in Malaysia and brings the style and sophistication of London to Sunway City, and Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes, the famous New York-based restaurant chain, is preparing to introduce its craft burgers and world-famous CrazyShake® milkshakes to Sunway Resort by the end of 2022. A rooftop hydroponic farm by Sunway XFarms will supply healthy, farm-fresh produce to the resort’s talented culinary team, in line with the hotel’s deep environmental commitment.
